La
colonia de pingüinos que Ud. visita comprende una superficie
cercana a las 45 hectáreas, se ubica en el margen noreste
del Seno Otway, en la provincia de Magallanes, comuna de Punta
Arenas, a 60 Km. al norte de la ciudad del mismo nombre.
Corresponde a un área de lomajes y planicies con predominio
de vegetación herbácea. La precipitación anual
bordea los 500 mm. La comunidad de fauna local es rica en cantidad
y diversidad de especies, destacando 14 aves en ambiente de playa
y mar, 16 aves y 2 mamíferos en la estepa y 14 aves y 1 mamífero
asociados a cuerpos de agua dulce.

The
penguin colony you are now visiting covers an area of about
45 hectares and it is located on Northeast coast of Otway Sound,
in the province of Magallanes, 60 km North of Punta
Arenas.
It hasplains and slopes with a mainly herbaceous vegetation. The annual
rainfall is approximately 500mm. The local fauna community is rich
in species quantity and variety. Among them there are 14 birds in
the sea and beach environmnent; 16 birds and 2 mammals in the steppe,
and 14 birds and 1 mammal associated to fresh water bodies.
